National Masters Results
Squash South Africa congratulates the winners of the Assore S A Masters National Championships which were completed at the Parkview Squash Centre, Johannesburg on Sunday 4th March 2012:
History was made by the Plumstead family. Three members : patriarch Roy captured the Men�s 65+ title; Linda Shannon (daughter ) won the Women�s 40-44 and Gary took the 35 -39.
I doubt in the history of the event that 3 members of one family have participated let alone won the titles. Special congratulations to Roy, Linda and Gary.

Out of interest with the World Masters Championships in Birmingham a mere 4 months away, I include our gold and silver medal winners through the years. South Africa has had numerous bronze medal winners too.
Women:
In 1983 the World Women�s Masters started with a 40 section. Jean Grainger reached the semi�s with Denise Holton making the quarterfinals. Although the championships were held in 87,89,90,91,92,93 and 95 it was not until the Championships were hosted by South Africa in Johannesburg in 97 that our players emerge again.
40-44: Helen van Tonder bt Shirley Whitmore 3-1: 45-49: Dee Thomas bt Helene Schlebusch 3-0: 50-54: Bett Dryhurst (Eng) bt Jean Grainger 3-1.
1999 : Jean Grainger bt Barbara Sanderson(Irl) 3-0 to take gold.
In 2003 in Sespoo Finlas Angie Clifton Parks collected her first gold beating Canada�s Louise Lefebre 3-0 while Pauline Douglas bt Julie Field to win gold in the 45-49 group. Faith Sinclair bt Helene Schlebusch 3-2 in the women�s 50-54 section and Jean Grainger bt Dawn Kaiser 3-1 in the 60+ group..
2006 in cape Town again hosted by South Africa: 40-44: Angie bt Viv Doeg 3-0: 45-49 Janet van der Westhuizen bt Helena Kruger : 50-54 : Anne Richards (Aus but with SA connections) bt Pauline Douglas (now Scot) 3-1 and in the 65+ event Sanderson edged through in 5 against Glenda Erasmus after saving match point at 0-2.
2008 in Christchurch: 65-69: Jean Grainger bt Antoinette Morris 3-0 with Averil Heath beating Jean Murray (Scot) 3-1
2010 : Leora Greenwood bt Bea de Dreu-Spitse (Ned) 3-0 in the 45-49 while in the 50-54 England�s Julie Field bt Lisa O�Grady 3-1. In the 55-59 group Australia�s Vicki Cardwell accounted for Pauline Douglas (who does live in Joburg). Sheena Worwood won the 65-69 while Averil Heath was runner-up in the 70+ group.
Men:
The men started with a 45 and a 55 group in 1976, continuing with just the 45 event in 77 and 79. In 1987 there were 3 events -35-39,40-44 and 45-49.
In 1991 in Auckland the 50-54,55-59 and 60 + were added. Hugh Colburn was runner up in the 45-49 event.
Scotland hosted the championships in 1993. Roy Plumstead won the 45 event. Gary Thomson was runner-up in the 40-44 championships in Melbourne in 1995.
Hosting in 1997 South Africa wrote its name in the annals by winning all 7 men�s gold medals !!!! Trevor Wilkinson walked away with the 35-39 gold with Pierr Roodt edging through in 5 games against Ralph Westerhoff in the 40-45 section. In another all South Africa final Charlie Bent beat Alan Colburn in the 45-49 group. Roy Plumstead collected the fourth gold beating Hugh Colburn (now Australian) in the 50-54 group. In the third all South African final Bert van Es defeated Dave Barrow 3-2 in the 55-59 section while Peter Fahrenheim defeated Leo Melvill in the 65-69 section. Cecil Kaplan added the seventh gold to make a clean sweep in the 70+ beating Australian Fred Green 3-1.
The players travelled to Sheffield in 1999 : Wilkinson was runner-up in the 35-39 section: Peter Fahrenheim was runner-up in the 65-69 group while John Cowper captured the 70+ gold.
Melbourne hosted the 2001 championships. Craig van der Wath won his first gold winning the 35-39 title: Trevor Wilkinson won the 40-44 crown. Dave Barrow was runner-up in the 60-64 section. Peter Fahrenheim lifted the 70+ title.
In Espoo, Finland in 2003 van der wath defeated Mike Tootill in 5 games to defend his 35-39 title: Alan Colburn won the 50-54 title and Roy Plumstead was runner-up in the 55-59 event. Brian Heath won another gold when he took the 65-59 title.
In Cape Town in 2006 Mike Tootill got his first gold by winning the 35-39 title: Craig van der wath took the 40-44 event and Peter Fahrenheim collected the inaugural 75+ gold. Brian Heath lost narrowly � 8-10 in the fifth to England�s John Woodliffe in the 70-74 section .
2008 in Christchurch saw Wilkinson lift the 45-49 title: Roodt was runner-up in the 50-54 group while Mike Bester won his first gold in the 55-59 section. Brian Heath was runner-up in the 70-74�s.
John Irving took gold in the 75+ section.
2010 was a lean year in Cologne: Tootill, van der Wath, Wilkinson and Fahrenehim each reached the semifinals while Tony martin was alone silver medallist when he was runner-up in the 65-69 section.
